How to Shutdown or Disable an Active Community
Are you trying to disable an active Community and have some questions? You've come to the right place!
🚨 Heads Up!
Once a Community is created, it cannot be shutdown automatically. In order to close a Community, you'll need to empty the Community by removing all of the members!
If you choose to delete the Community product, please note that the underlying Community will still exist. That being said, if you follow the steps below, it will be inaccessible to anyone with the link!
Disabling a Free or One-Time Payment Community
To shut down a one-time payment/free Community, you'll need to remove all of the members form your Community. Here's how:
- Navigate to your Community and click on your members
- For each member, select Remove from the Member Dropdown Menu
Once you've removed all of your members and your Community is empty, you can delete the product from your store:
- Navigate to the My Store tab
- Select the 3 dots to the right of your Community product and select Delete Product or you can select Make Landing Page to remove it from your store without deleting it entirely
- Select Yes, Delete Product
🚨 Please Note
The Community itself is something that exists for every store from the moment you make your first community product. This means that though you've deleted the product form your store, the Community does still exist, so making sure to remove customers from your Community (steps above) is crucial to ensuring your Community is actually shut down.
To clarify, your Community invite link will still work, so unless you manually remove your Community members from your Community, they will still be able to access it.
Disabling a Subscription-Based Community
Shutting down a subscription-based Community is the same process as shutting down a one-time payment Community, however, you will additionally need to manually cancel all of your members active subscriptions before you delete the product. Here's how:
- Follow the steps above to Remove all members from inside your Community
- Navigate to your Customers tab and filter the Product for Community
- Select any customer with a subscription to your Community
- Once in the customer page, select the 3 dots to the right of the subscription, and select Cancel Subscription
- Rinse and repeat with every customer with an active subscription
- Navigate to your My Store tab
- Select the 3 dots to the right of your Community product and select Delete Product or you can select Make Landing Page to remove it from your store without deleting it entirely
- Select Yes, Delete Product
🚨 Please Note!
If you fail to cancel your customers' subscriptions to your Community, they will continue to be charged regularly even after you delete the product!
