What Is Adaptive Pricing / Local Currency at Checkout?

Selling to customers around the world just got easier! 🌍 Stan now automatically shows your international customers your prices in their own local currency at checkout.

The best part? You don’t need to set anything up! Your store currency stays the same, and you still get paid full price for your sales.

How does Adaptive Pricing work?

  • When a customer visits your checkout from a country that uses a different currency than your store, they’ll see your product's price converted to their local currency, using real-time exchange rates.
  • Your original store currency price is still shown as a second option, so customers can choose how they want to pay.
  • If a customer’s currency matches your store currency, nothing changes!
  • Local pricing is available in 150+ countries. If a customer’s currency isn’t supported, they’ll see your store currency.

Example: Your Course is priced at $49 USD and a customer in Canada opens your checkout. They’ll see the price in CAD, as well as the option of paying in USD.

What does this means for me as a Creator?

  • You’re still paid in your store currency. If your product is USD $49, you receive USD $49 no matter which currency your customer pays in!
  • No extra cost to you. Neither Stan nor Stripe charges you a conversion fee for this feature.
  • No foreign exchange risk. Stripe handles the conversion, so changes in exchange rates don’t affect what you earn.
  • Potential for more international sales. Customers are more likely to buy when they see a price they recognize. According to Stripe, about 90% of shoppers choose their local currency when it’s offered. On average, businesses using Adaptive Pricing see about 17.8% more international revenue and about 5% more successful payments!

What does this mean for my customers?

  • Customers will see a clear, final price in their own local currency.
  • If your customer chooses to pay in their local currency, a 2–4% conversion fee is already included in the price they see. The exchange rate is locked in, so the price they see is the price they pay.
  • If your customer chooses to pay in your store currency instead, there’s no conversion fee at checkout, but their bank may charge its own exchange rate and foreign transaction fees.
  • Paying in their local currency can help customers avoid surprise foreign transaction fees from their bank.

Refunds

  • Refunds are issued as usual from your Stan Store.
  • Your customer is refunded in the currency they paid in, at the same exchange rate as their original purchase, so they get back the exact amount they paid.
  • There’s no extra cost to you as the Creator.

Things to know

  • Adaptive Pricing will be on the storefront of all Creators, and can’t be turned off for individual stores.
  • Your product prices don’t change. Keep pricing your products in your store currency as usual!
  • When you preview your own checkout, you’ll see prices in your local currency if it’s different from your store currency. That’s expected, and it’s what your local customers will see too.
  • To change your store’s currency itself, see How to Change Your Currency On Stan.
