How to Set up Stan AutoDM

Stan AutoDM takes your Instagram sales game to the next level by automating replies! Here’s how it works:

📲 Pick a keyword, or multiple keywords

🔗 Post on Instagram asking your audience to DM or comment with that word

💬 Stan handles the rest, instantly sending your custom message to anyone who uses it

Setting Up Your First Stan AutoDM

  1. Head over to the AutoDM tab on the left sidebar. If you don't see it there, you may need to access the feature by clicking on + More and then toggling on AutoDM from the menu.

  1. Next, click Connect Instagram and enter your login credentials. Be sure to hit Allow to grant permissions.

  1. Now it's time to set up your automation by clicking Let's Go!

  1. Decide your unique Keyword(s) or Phrase(s) that will trigger the auto-reply, then choose what your customer will receive when they DM or comment that keyword.

  1. Choose which posts you'd like to enable the AutoDM for by clicking On All Posts and choosing the intended posts (or Enable for All Posts).

  1. Add any reply comments you'd like to automate in response to the comments your audience leaves you by turning on Comment back. Then, you can edit the comments!

🚨 Please Note!

You can choose to include replies to comments, or you can choose to turn them off. If you do choose to turn them on, you may be at a higher risk of being flagged as a bot by Meta! You can help to mitigate this risk by including different reply options.

  1. Save Draft to come back later, or click Publish to immediately enable the auto-reply.
  2. Once published, you should see this screen below. We recommend heading over to your IG to test out the automation for yourself!


Reviewing Stan AutoDM Analytics

Stan AutoDM also provides analytics that can help you measure impact! Those analytics will be listed next to the Keywords on your AutoDM tab. Here's what it looks like on your end:

To break this down a bit, each analytic is explained below:

  • Sent: Total automations triggered (Sent via IG)
  • Opened: Total DMs seen and opened
  • Clicks: Amount of customers who clicked on the link in the DM
  • Opt-Ins: Amount of purchases from the AutoDM

Are AutoDMs case sensitive?

No, Stan AutoDMs are not case sensitive!


How does Stan’s AutoDM feature differ from ManyChat?

Stan’s solution focuses specifically on Instagram automation, integrating seamlessly with your store. Unlike ManyChat, it simplifies setup by focusing on the core use case of keyword-triggered replies.


If I disconnect my Stan AutoDM, will I lose all of my AutoDMs?

Nope! If you disconnect your IG from Stan, your AutoDMs will become inactive—but they’ll be saved in case you want to reconnect later.


Can I create quizzes or multi-step flows?

Not yet, but we’re gathering feedback—let us know if this is important for your business!


Can I create a "flow," "series of questions," or a "quiz" with Stan's AutoDM feature?

Currently, no. But we’re excited to gather insights from you! If this is something you'd like to see, please let us know.


If I’m currently using ManyChat, do I need to turn it off to use Stan’s AutoDMs?

Yes. For Stan AutoDMs to work properly, you’ll need to disconnect ManyChat or any other apps that are overriding or managing your Instagram DMs. Once ManyChat is disconnected, you’ll be all set to use Stan’s AutoDM automations!


What analytics will I be able to see with this feature?

Great question! You’ll be able to track the number of automations sent, opened, link clicks, and Stan purchases.


What happens to analytics if I’m not linking to a Stan Store URL?

Any external link you include in your AutoDM will still be tracked. All link clicks—whether they go to Stan or elsewhere—are counted in your analytics.
