What Are the Different Types of Stripe Accounts?
💸 Ready to get paid? You’ll need to set up a Stripe or PayPal account to receive your funds! When it comes to Stripe, you have two paths to choose from:
- Create a brand new Stripe account (called a Stripe Custom account).
- Or, connect an existing Stripe account (called a Stripe Standard account).
This article will walk you through both options so you can pick the one that’s right for you.

🧪 At the moment, Option 2, connecting an existing Stripe account (Stripe Standard), is in experiment mode! This experiment is only available to a small percentage of new Creators going through the Onboarding Checklist on a mobile web browser who signed up after May 1st, 2025.
Option 1: Create a New Stripe Account (Stripe Custom)
A Stripe Custom Account provides a seamless experience with Stan. You can manage your payouts, update your bank info, and view earnings directly within your Stan dashboard — no separate Stripe login needed.
How do I create a new Stripe Custom account?
- From the "Connect your bank account via Stripe" section of the Onboarding checklist, you'll click New Account.

💪 Because your Stripe Custom account is directly integrated with Stan, you can reach out to Stan's Creator Support team at friends@stanwith.me for any assistance with your Stripe account.
Option 2: Connect an Existing Stripe Account (Stripe Standard)
A Stripe Standard Account is directly owned and managed by the user (you!) instead of by Stan. You’ll log into Stripe.com or the Stripe Mobile App to update your bank information, view earnings, and manage payouts.
How do I connect an existing Stripe Standard account?
- From the "Connect your bank account via Stripe" section of the Onboarding checklist, you'll click Connect Account.

💪 Because your Stripe Standard account is separate from Stan, you can reach out to Stripe Support for any assistance.
🚨Because your Stripe Standard account is separate from Stan, your Income tab on Stan may not display accurate earnings. To view your income and initiate payouts, head to Stripe.com or use the Stripe Mobile App.
