Why is Afterpay and/or Klarna Not Working?

In order to use Afterpay or Klarna, the following must be true:

  • You must have an active Creator Pro subscription
  • You have a Stripe Custom or a Stripe Express account connected to your Stan store
  • For Afterpay:
    • You're based in one of the following countries: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, France, Spain
    • Your Stan store and Stripe account both have one of the following currencies: USD, CAD, GBP, AUD, NZD, or EUR.
  • For Klarna:
    • You're based in one of the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, and the United States.
    • Your Stan store and Stripe account both have one of the following currencies: AUD, CAD, EUR, GBP, NZD, SEK, or USD.

It's important to note that you need to use the currency that is supported in the country where you're based. For example, as a Canadian-based creator, you will not be able to offer your products in USD. If Afterpay and Klarna still aren't showing at checkout, please check the following:

  1. You're on the Creator Pro subscription plan.
  2. Your country is supported, see the list above
  3. The currency of your Stripe Custom or Stripe Express account is a currency supported by your country.
  4. The currency of your Stan store is the same as the currency of your Stripe Custom or Stripe Express account.
  5. The customer trying to make a purchase using Klarna or PayPal is based in the same country as you. Only customers who are using that same currency and are based in the same country as you will have the option to use Klarna or Afterpay. For example, American Creators must have their Stripe bank account and Stan store currency in USD and only customers using USD can use Afterpay and Klarna.
  6. You might also be missing the Customer Support phone number to allow Stripe to complete the process of enabling Payment Plans! Below are steps to make sure your Support phone number is enabled:
    1. Head to Settings > Payment Settings
    2. Click on the Manage Account button
    3. Verify and access your Stripe account using the SMS verification code
    4. Login to your Stripe account and update the phone number on file
