What is the Legacy Affiliate Share feature?

The Legacy Affiliate Share feature allows you to create Affiliate links for your digital products and distribute them to other active Stan users to share on their Stan stores!

You have the freedom to choose the commission % you'd like to offer for each Affiliate link you create. This feature enables you to market your products to other Stan Creators' audiences and reward your Affiliates with commissions.

🚨Heads up!

We've switched over to a new Affiliate Share feature.

I'm using the Legacy Affiliate Share feature. How will the new Affiliate Share feature affect me?

We'll eventually phase out the Legacy Affiliate Share feature, but if you're already using it, don't worry!

As of now, we're running both the new Affiliate Share feature and the Legacy Affiliate Share feature simultaneously (as long as you already have the Legacy Affiliate Share feature configured). To add a Legacy Affiliate link to a product, follow the steps below.

How to create and share a Legacy Affiliate Link for your digital product

  1. Head over to the My Store Tab, then click into the product you'd like to create an Affiliate link for.
  2. Select the Options tab and scroll down to find the Affiliate Share section. Toggle on Enable Affiliate Share, and click on the Settings button.

  1. Next, click +Add Affiliate Link and type in your desired commission %. This is how much commission your Affiliate will earn when a sale is made. You can create as many Affiliate links as you'd like, using as many different commission percentages!

  1. You'll have to manually share Legacy Affiliate links with your customers. To do this, click on the Copy URL button. Once you've copied the URL, share it with as many Stan users as you'd like so they can add to their Stan Store!

  1. Your Affiliates can add this link to their Stan Store as an External Link/ URL product. This is the only way we can track commissions with Legacy Affiliate links!

Frequently asked questions

With the Legacy Affiliate Feature, how does someone use the Affiliate link I give them?

For someone to qualify as a Legacy Affiliate link user, they must:

🚨 Heads up!

With the Legacy Affiliate Share feature, if your Affiliate shares your Affiliate link anywhere except their Stan Store (via text, email, their own website, etc), they won't receive commission. This is because there's no way to track where the sale came from. In this case, you, as the Creator, will receive 100% of the sale, and the Affiliate will receive 0%.

What happens if I update or delete my digital product that has an Affiliate link associated with it?

If you update or delete a product that has an Affiliate link attached to it, and someone purchases your product through an Affiliate link, your Affiliate may receive an invalid link code or a deleted link code email.

If this happens, your Affiliate won't receive any commission. We'll prompt them to contact you directly to resolve the issue. In most cases, all you'll need to do is send them a new Affiliate link and decide whether you'd like to pay them their commission manually.

How do I process a refund for an Affiliate transaction?

When an Affiliate sale is made, the funds are held for 7 days in case a refund is needed. If you need to process a refund, only you, as the original Creator, can initiate this. Additionally, only the original Creator can update the customer's information (i.e., name, email address).

If you're an Affiliate, you'll need to reach out to the original Creator to issue a refund for the transaction.

If you're the original Creator and would like to process a refund after the 7-day holding period, please note that you'd be refunding the full amount out of your Income Tab, whereas the Affiliate would keep their commission (since it's after the 7-day hold). To process a refund after the 7-day holding period for an Affiliate's customer, please reach out to our support team so that our engineering team can process a refund in full.

How does a payout for an Affiliate transaction work?

Once a customer has purchased your product using an Affiliate link, you'll see the transaction inside your Income Tab with the Affiliate's name.

Stan will hold the funds (in USD) for both you and the Affiliate for 7 business days to ensure funds are easily accessible in case a refund is needed. During this time, your Affiliate funds will be visible in the Held By Stan section.

How do I view my Affiliate transactions, and when will they become available to cash out?

To view your Affiliate transactions, follow these steps:

  1. Head over to your Income Tab.
  2. Use the Affiliate filter and select either via Affiliate or Affiliate Commission.

  1. Next, to view the details of each transaction, click on the order. A new screen will open where you can view a timeline of each transaction.

How do Stripe and PayPal transaction fees work with the Legacy Affiliate Share feature?

The Creator who owns the product will be charged all transaction fees from Stripe and PayPal associated with the payment. The Affiliate won't be charged any fees and will receive their commission share.

There are no additional fees associated with Affiliate Shares—the fees are the same as any other transaction. Read more about fees here: Stan, Stripe, and Paypal transaction fees.

🚨 Heads up!

The Affiliate Share feature is unavailable for Order Bumps.
